Friendly competition Get together with a group of like-minded friends who are committed to reaching the same, or similar, goals. Brainstorm ways to "compete" in reaching those goals, decide on the timing and logistics of regular "check-in" meetings and perhaps set up a system of rewards. Example: A group of friends all wish to lose weight. They decide to buy inexpensive pedometers to track their daily walking distance. Weekly meetings enable them to compare numbers and the winner each week is rewarded with a movie coupon paid for by weekly "dues" of a dollar or two per person. Another scenario might be a group of co-workers who want to raise money for a charity. In their meetings, everyone is awarded "points" based on the money they raised that week, to be "spent" on favors from the others in the group (such as running off copies, fetching coffee, covering for them in meetings, etc). The selection and "price" of these awards should be determined in the initial meeting. |
